


Self Advocacy is an important aspect of The Arc's mission and vision. The Arc fully supports and endorses people with disabilities and their right to provide input into how they are treated, what supports and services work best, and that public policy relfects these desires. The Arc wants to establish a dynamic and energetic self advocacy group that can impact all areas of service delivery.
The Arc of Carroll County is currently seeking self advocates and a facilitator to begin The Arc of Carroll County Self-Advocacy program. The following description provides information regarding the criteria for membership:
Self Advocate: People with the ability to communicate and persuade others to action. Members of the group with assist The Arc and perhaps other organizations with staff training on working with people with disabilities, assist The Arc in communicating its mission and vision to the community. Appear in advertising and media productions that support The Arc's vision and mission. Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals including other self advocates, parents, civic groups, elected officials, and government employees. Meetings are determined by the group.
Facilitator: Paid position 5-10 hrs. bi-weekly. Recruit, train, and motivate members of self advocacy group. Support the group in all aspects including meeting dates, transportation needs, agenda development and seeking opportunities to educate the community regarding the needs of people with disabilities.
