Shinderman honored with special education award

Carroll County Times
5/29/2009

The Arc of Carroll County presented Linda E. Shinderman, special education teacher at New Windsor Middle School, with the Special Education Professional of the Year Award.

This award recognizes an education professional who has demonstrated excellence in providing quality educational opportunities and/or advocacy for students with developmental disabilities in Carroll County. The award is presented to a teacher, administrator, support staff, or other education professional who has had a positive impact in the life of an individual student or group of students.

Shinderman has been teaching at New Windsor Middle School since 2004. While her students have a wide range of abilities, she challenges each of them to meet their potential. She instills in her students that they are capable of great achievements and makes school a special place for students with special needs.

Shinderman works with the class to contribute to the school community, such as making ice bags for the health room each day, preparing cards and goody bags for Bus Driver Appreciation Week and preparing a Thanksgiving meal from scratch for special guests.
