


The Arc of Carroll County offers a wide variety of employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Through these programs, we strive to support individuals on developing their work skills, their interests as well as their knowledge of both employment and leisure opportunities available in our local community. To confirm our commitment to quality services, our program areas have received The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commissions (CARF) highest level of accreditation. CARF is a not for profit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through an accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of persons served.
This rapidly expanding program supports individuals as they identify, develop and explore opportunities for employment within their local community. Job coaches support individuals through skill identification, assistance with job development, and also on the job training and support to ensure success. Individual employment, enclave or volunteer situations are all supported. Currently individuals are employed in retail, administrative support, childcare, direct marketing, as well as grounds maintenance positions.
Our Work Services Program is a facility-based program that is located on Kriders Church Road in Westminster. This program provides educational, recreation and leisure activities while also providing training and development of vocational skills through contract work and group activities. Staff focus on assessing individual’s strengths and abilities and provide skill development concentrating on safety, work adjustment and positive work skills. Individuals may also work on various enclaves or work crews at local businesses. Through this program a small group of individuals work on site at a local business while receiving training and supervision from a job coach.
The Personal and Support Services Program focuses on providing individuals with skill development in daily living, socialization, communication and also vocational skills. Individuals are given opportunities to better connect with their community through activities, fitness, and volunteer programs, which are of personal interest. The program encourages personal choice and helps people to enrich their lives.
With the support of The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Reach Independence through Self-Employment (RISE) and the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), the Self-Employment program supports individuals interested in small business ownership. Individuals receive assistance in exploring business ownership, developing a viable business plan, seeking multiple funding sources and supporting the business. This innovative program provides a solid foundation for a successful business.
